Me — June ’16 Update

I’ve got a few things going on right now, but the funny thing about that is that all of them are a little too personal or close to my heart to actually talk about on an open forum. So, instead I’ll talk a little bit about the things I’m physically doing right now and whatnot.

These days I’ve been very secluded. I ‘d say I socialize with people that don’t actually live in my house every other day. Not even over the internet am I actually interacting with people, so I feel strangely alone right now, which of course has pros and cons. The biggest pro to that is that I get to relax. Since I ‘recharge’ in seclusion I’m basically running on full battery most of the time, which feels great. It puts me in a great mood, ready to go out and do whatever if anyone asks. The con is that, to nobody’s surprise ever, people don’t. I don’t have a whole lot of friends and most of the ones I do have are pretty introverted, so they don’t generally want to hang out either!

So I’ve been listening to audiobooks, podcasts, and playing games I can enjoy single player. To be specific, I’ve been listening to Dan Wells’ Partials sequence, a post-apocalyptic trilogy. Just finished the second book today. I’m also finishing up the third season of Writing Excuses. Lately I’ve been either leveling my hunter in Warcraft (I’m a sucker for leveling systems) or playing a sort of tower defense RPG called “Gemcraft”. My favorite thing about it is that you can really play however you want. There is no “right answer” or “best gun” in this game. (Well, technically there is, but you don’t need to do it if you want to just do your own thing, which I am oft fond of.)

I’ve also been physically reading at least one chapter a week, just before I go to bed. The best part about that is that I’m not actually losing sleep. That time I would be spending to lay in bed with my eyes closed is simply spent shutting down reading, instead. When I feel my eyelids start to get heavy, I just finish that chapter and fall asleep immediately afterwards. It’s awesome because I’m A. getting more reading done, and B. feeling like I’m sleeping better simply because I no longer have much trouble falling asleep.

In regards to writing, I admit Dreamscape is sort of losing my favor. It’s no longer the most interesting thing in the world to me, so I’m having trouble staying inspired to write it (though deadlines help). At the same time, though, I’m about two-thirds of the way done with the first draft, so I don’t want to leave this unfinished. My plan for now is to write the most interesting and action-packed chapters when I don’t want to write and leave the more droll ones for when I don’t mind as much.

For the future, I am making plans for writing Sorik’s trilogy. This is way more interesting than it sounds because Sorik is the origin of Nacre Then. I created his character, then build the universe around him. For all these years I’ve been waiting until I could consider myself a “good” writer before I wrote his story, but now I’m starting to reconsider. I never wanted to mess it up, but now I feel like I should write it, inevitably mess it up, and then think of my next project after that. Why think of something new to write now when I already have so much material to work with? I’m going to mess up whatever I write anyway, so there’s no point in not writing those stories. Besides, I can always come back to them.

Still, Sorik’s trilogy is going to take a lot of planning. I’m definitely going to write up at least a vague outline of the whole trilogy before I write the first chapter. If I do finish the first draft of Dreamscape before I’m ready to get started, I’ve been fortunate enough to find some very good writing prompts on Imgur. I’m usually very picky about my writing prompts, and thus never write, but the ones I’ve recently found pretty much all show promise. So I’m actually excited to take a swing at some of them. If I do write them they will almost definitely come up on the Weekly Story portion of the blog. Obviously I’ll keep you posted.
